WELCOME TO THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS

Over the past decade The Department of Economics at New York University has evolved into one of the world's leading centers for research and teaching in economics. Our faculty now includes thirteen Fellows of the Econometric Society, along with two members of the National Academy of Sciences. Many serve on the editorial boards of leading economics journals. Also on our faculty are winners of Guggenheim and Sloan Fellowships.

We are pleased to report that, having completed his term as President of the Econometric Society, Tom Sargent is serving as President of the American Economic Association. Both the Econometric Society and the Journal of Economic Theory have their offices in our department.

We welcome four outstanding new assistant professors, who will join us in 2007:
