New York University DOUGLAS GALE TOPICS IN ECONOMICS:COORDINATION AND SOCIAL LEARNINGFall 2000Lectures: Wednesday 10am - 12 noon, Room 315Office Hours: Monday 10am - 12 noon or by appointmentThis course will focus on two topics, coordination games and models of learning. The first half of the course will consist of lectures. The remainder of the course consists of student presentations. Students will select one or more papers from the bibliography and present them to the class. In addition to providing an exposition of the material, students are expected to discuss the motivation for the research and the extent to which the research succeeds or fails to achieve its objectives, and to pose questions for future research. In addition to giving an opportunity to practice public speaking, the presentations are often the first step towards an original research project. The grade for the course is normally based on the presentation but students have the option of requesting a final examination.
